Janet Brice Parker
Winter denial poem.
WINTER DENIAL
I lost all memory of winter
when we walked through aromatic breezes.
Girls in tank tops, silky with lotions
and fresh shampoo.
Day’s end lingered and gifted us
with a slowly waning colorful sky.
Blistering winds in my face, escaped me.
Were they fire or ice?
They’ve come back,
the memories I refused to recall.
As I layer and layer,
wiggle into long pants and boots,
I think to myself,
Only 31 days until light gradually
takes away the blackness of five o’ clock
