UNRAVELING A MEMORY

I remembered your blue gym shorts
As I was sorting through the laundry.
I forgot you were gone and I was looking for them
I wanted to feel their familiar softness as I folded and
Placed them on your shelf.
They had been with you almost as long as I.
The color began to fade over the years
And the elastic had worn thin.
I watched you wear them to go running
In the park, then I waited at the door
For your return.
