DOES GOD WEAR A HAT?

Daddy wore a hat
and stretched out waiting arms
whenever he saw me coming
whenever he suspected harm.

My earthly father loved me
beyond my wildest dreams,
but I can't get a grip on the love
that comes from something unseen.

If I thought that God had on a hat
and stretched his arms out wide
and looked just like my daddy did,
I'd feel differently inside.

I'd know that He could teach me things
and that He wasn't far away.
I'd know that Daddy would walk by me
and tell me, "there's nothing to pay."

Daddy loved me without fail.
He always told me that.
I need to know that God loves me,
with or without a hat.
