Dancing in the Rain
Across the street, three little girls
are dancing in the rain.
It’s coming down in torrents,
meeting six little happy feet
and making mud puddles bigger.
They jump as high as they can
and splash into the water.
The splashing makes large droplets
appear above their heads.
Their hair and clothes
are sopping wet which makes
the three children squeal
with delight!
I haven’t forgotten the fun
Water creates.
Three little girls splashed
In the rain.
My two cousins and I.
In 1950 we played with the
hose pipe and danced
To the rhythms of youth.
In 2025, I stand under
the outdoor shower’s
soothing spray.
My aching bones are grateful.
I look up at lush trees
and soak up the memories.
