YOUTH REMEMBERED

Remembering the pleasant times
aroused anticipation.
I fantasized on future days -
confident expectation.
Looking back seemed close at hand
ahead lay unwrapped gifts.
Approaching age for a twenty year old
was nothing but a myth.
Looking back seems far away,
ahead creates concern.
And taking days
each as they come
is something I haven’t learned.
