Words Fail Me

I try to talk to people and seem
somewhat intelligent but often my vocabulary fails.
My words tumble over other words
and fall upside down into tall grass.
I’m not quick with comebacks.
I think of them later when I’m alone.
I feel muddled, confused, disconnected.
I laugh at others when their wit roars with hilarity.
I write silly birthday songs and humorous rhymes.

I’m a piece of work,
and funny later.
To sum it all up
 I’m an artist and I guess
 a comedian on paper.
