TRUE SISTERS

The first time I saw you, you were slowly walking by the condo pool and combing your short, wet hair. I thought to myself that you were a  beauty. You had on a one piece swimsuit while the rest of us girls had on bikinis. In spite of your conservative attire, my unfortunate husband at the time fell all over himself flirting with you. No matter  that your husband was close by.  You paid no attention to his foolishness and instead called to your girls. “Stephanie, Veronica, let’s go home”.

I had no idea that you would become my forever best friend.

After  the pool inscident we talked some. I had two precious little boys and you had two beautiful girls. Our respective children were around the same ages. They played together and put  up with each other through years of being thrown together.

You invited me to lunch at your place.  We began a conversation that would last fifty years. We have different views on some things. We don’t talk politics because we’re on different ends of the spectrum. But  those opposite views on certain topics have little to do with our love for one another.

You’re in your seventies and I’m eighty one. We still continue our weekly visits. You make me feel special. You like my decorating. You wear my hand-me-down clothes. and  look better in them than I ever did. Your second husband has passed away but he was perfect for you. My second husband is the best thing that has ever  happened to me.

We are true sisters and have been for many years.

We are old  women now but when we look at each other, we’re still those young beautiful girls with little children who  still run toward us and have never left our sides.
