The Poet’s Muse
The poet’s muse always says,
“Write what you know.”
Draw from your experiences—
yesterday’s and today’s joyous and painful moments.
The sadness washes over me,
then pulls me into the ocean’s depths,
where a gentle relief takes me down
into dark acceptance.
I’ve written about the hurt
from a bad marriage,
which included being alone
in an occupied house.
Being beaten
and beaten down.
Now I have been accepted
and loved for thirty-six years.
He is a quiet savior
who sits with me on the porch
and accepts
all that my muse presents.
