THE EVEN KILL

I suppose there are some people existing on a plane
that’s foreign to euphoria, removed from grief and pain.

Evenness and unevents afford such great accord,
they’ll sacrifice the highest highs for an orderly reward.

My life is plagued with hopelessness and futile desperation,
It also knows of cheerfulness, joy and exaltation.

From day to day I live with fear and peace and agitation,
Rage, remorse and turmoil followed by elation.

I might like to try an even keel, hop aboard a balanced plane.
But what if that tranquility makes me quietly insane?
