Janet Brice Parker
The Cloth poem.
THE CLOTH
I don’t want to race
from store to store,
chasing magazine ads
that make promises.
Model clone clothes
draped on an empty shell.
So much to pay for
a questionable compliment.
I want to dance
unaware of steps in vogue
or what others think of me.
I want to see
from the inside out.
