REASSESSMENT

Postponing the inevitable
Was partly due to the stuff.
I thought dividing up our things
Would be emotionally tough.
Besides, I liked the way your desk
Impressed and fit right in
With antiques that my mama had -
They made a perfect blend.
I hesitated through the years,
Imagined I would cry
If the two of us and
Duncan Phyfe
Were forced to say, “goodbye”.
But objects of my affection
Began to lose their appeal.
I’ve redefined what I call mine
And nothing seems more real.
