Nightly invasion poem.
NIGHTLY INVASION
You don’t mingle in and
out of distorted faces.
You are not part of a
fragmented scenario,
void of interpretation.
You forcefully intrude
upon my silent hours
and blemish my dreams.
You are as visible as
you were, and just as
violent.
I awake screaming
and my husband calms me.
It has been eighteen
years since you last
threw me against the wall.
Yet, your invidious nature
shows itself in living
pain in my dreams.
The murky blood from
my nose manifests as
tears on my terrorized face.
Your hate for me shows
throughout my private
times that should be for
regeneration and healing.
You are real in the night.
And your anger is unceasing.
I pray to God, I cry for help,
I beg to let go and to be free.
But there you are again,
inflicting pain.
And I come undone.
