LIFE GOES ON (SO TO SPEAK)

I always thought to have a life,
I had to be attached.
The sky, the trees
weren’t there for me
unless I’d met my match.

I didn’t know
that I could breathe
or call a house a home
unless I knew you’d be with me.
I’d never live alone.

To recognize
my singleness
has caused enormous grief.
But knowing that the sun is there
is giving me relief.
