Janet Brice Parker
IN REMEMBRANCE OF DONALD
I was always underfoot.
An irritating little sister-cousin.
I liked your friends,
I wore your clothes,
I sought your approval
And sometimes you’d come through,
Like the night you took me to
The schools dance because
I couldn’t get a date.
You swirled me around
And didn’t seem to mind
That I never revealed
Our relation.
“Who’s that cute boy, Janet?”
“He’s from out of town”.
Thanks, Donald for complimenting
My kindergarten scribbles.
For being an example
Of bravery in so many ways.
For last summer on my
Back porch when I truly
Got to know you.
And for being my hero.
