Janet Brice Parker
IN DEW TIME
I wasted a lot of water today
as I played with the spray of the hose.
I washed every leaf off the patio
then I washed all the dirt off my toes.
I watched the sunlight catch the drops
as I saturated the ferns.
I thought about Karen and Becky and me
And how we used to take turns.
We’d run through the fluid icy cold,
Try to capture the rainbows it made.
create circles to lasso the sun
not knowing the shine would soon fade.
