ILL FITTING FORM

I’ll never know
what was inside the you
that I observed from
four year old eyes.
I saw the beginnings
of a mold you were forming.
A shape for your only child
to fit into and make you proud.
But my psyche did not
conform to the hollow cavity.
The architecture and accouterments
irritated my body and mind.
My creative spontaneous nature
rejected pearls and fine china.
The invariable comparisons
to perfect and proper girls
shattered my heart
and brought into existence
a perception of self loathing.
I did not turn out as you envisioned,
so you took ownership
of the talents I had, and made them
your possessions.
If only I could have known your real true self.
You never presented me with
honesty, fun, humor or reality.
They would have fit inside
the greatest mold of all.
