GRANDDADDY

Granddaddy used to laugh with me and say he was on my side
While others told of my failings until I would run and hide.

Donald said I was ugly and chased me with a bat.
Mae told me I wasn’t pretty enough to wear my hair like that.

Vivian corrected my grammar although “I doesn’t’ care”.
Mama said I was sassy, guess the devil and I made a pair.

Daddy told me I was bad Because I hated to go to church.
One day I ran away. they went on a massive search.

There were some neighbors I didn’t like, i threw a rock at old Miss Sally
I got whippings in school, sent out in the hall ‘cause I liked to dilly dally.

I yelled about being stuffed in the car for our weekly Sunday drive,
But I knew I couldn’t be all bad, Granddaddy was on my side.
