Excess does not bless poem.

EXCESS

Too much is expected
too many rejected
families feel disconnected
and don’t get along.

Why did it happen?
Trimmings and wrapping,
nonbelievers clapping
over money they’ve made.

The importance of Santa Claus
doesn’t make us reflect and pause.
He’s no reason or awesome cause
for the star in the east.

The season is hectic
we hate and expect it
we’re tired and perplexed
over what we’ve become.

We’ve joined in the rat race
we’re running with great haste
and forgetting we must taste
the bread and the wine.
