COMPARISONS
They delight in the simplest things.
Laughs and smiles over a game of peep eye.
I stand in the grocery line and in front of me
little legs bounce up and down
while tiny hands pat the cart’s handle.
Then they scream for a multitude of reasons.
Their rage does not come from
tiring life experiences.
The world has not infiltrated
their little minds.
Their bodies are supple and lacking
in chronic pain. I stand in the grocery line
and the child’s delight causes
me to forget, for a moment,
the weight of my years.
