ARTSY and ODD

I’m an old lady now.
I wouldn’t go back
To those shy, insecure years.
Those years when I almost
apologized for my existence.
Years when I thought everyone
Was scrutinizing my entire being.
I didn’t think I was pretty or
Worthy. Why would I when
I had a mother who criticized
Everything about me.
I never dressed right,
I was artsy and odd according
To her. I didn’t do the
“Right” things like other girls.
But I’m happy now that
I’m closer to heaven than
In those tender years.
Closer to meeting the one
Who likes me artsy and odd.
