ABANDONMENT

she lies hanging onto life
in chrome and steel
cold white sheets
blinding lights and
doctors circling like a blurred carousel

can she think now?
does she remember the faces
she sees through one filtered eye.
does she long for the sacraments
knowing she would be refused

a congregation with unforgiving doctrines
elders pious, proud controlling
an abusive marriage dissolved
unaccepted by the leaders
(accepted and forgiven by God)

young and beautiful
driven to heartache so great
her head is a time bomb
eating away at brilliant cells in her brain

they stripped her of her talents
they took away the bread and the wine
but God will welcome her
with His body and blood
He will hand her an obo
and her music will serenade
the heavens.
